I'm officially in the Sierras! Since the desert has ended my hiking style has completely changed. While I finally feel like I have my trail legs and can put in big miles without getting TOO sore, I chose not to. The views are so gorgeous that no one wants to do big miles. We take our time doing about 17 miles a day. During the day we take long breaks for coffee, snacks, and most importantly the lakes.

The lakes here are all snow fed and are crystal clear. Many of them are this otherworldly blue color that I have never seen in my life. The one pictured above is still even slightly frozen, so no swimming, but many others are slightly warmer and are perfect for an afternoon dip!

We are doing about one mountain pass a day and are rewarded with astonishing views at the top. This is typically where I have second breakfast consisting of coffee and a granola bar.

The other great thing about the Sierras is how remote it is. For a week we had no service, crossed no roads, and had connection to the outside world. It. Was. Great.

What an adventure! Was those hikers (the tiny objects) that appear as specks in a vertical line up the left side of Half Dome?

So amazing to think there is still snow in the mountains when we're sweltering in Iowa. I love the idea of lakes too cold to swim in. Stay safe and keep enjoying (and sharing) those beautiful views!
